Dennis Tan on Social Residential Homes Bill

05:36 Min

The Social Residential Homes Bill is a step in the right direction - aiming to codify and harmonise existing standards under a common framework to enable Singaporeans to benefit from a robust regulatory regime for social residential homes, said MP Dennis Tan. Speaking in parliament on Tuesday (Apr 8), he pointed out that a licensing regime, while well-intentioned, also involves upfront and recurrent costs for social service agencies. He wanted to know how the government is reviewing its funding arrangements with them. Turning to the one-off transition support package for social residential homes seeking to be licensed for the first time, Mr Tan asked if there would be pre-licensing checks to identify areas for improvement. As the homes may be of different sizes and have different resources or strengths, he wanted to know what the transition package consists of.
