Chat Settings preferences for Jabber
Use the Chat Settings pane of Accounts preferences in Messages to set chat options for your Jabber account.
To view these preferences in Messages, choose Messages > Preferences, click Accounts, select the account, then click Chat Settings.
You can’t change account settings while you’re logged in. First, set your status to Offline.
Nickname | Enter a nickname you can use to join all chat rooms anonymously. For more details, see Use a chat room.
In chat rooms, show | Choose the maximum number of messages you want to show in chat rooms.
Priority | When you sign in to the same account from different computers at the same time, the priority and your status determine the computer that receives messages. For example, assume you’re signed in to Messages as Available on an iMac with priority 5, as Away on a MacBook Air with priority 15, and as Available on a MacBook Pro with priority 10. If a message is sent to you, it goes to the MacBook Pro. The MacBook Air is Away, and between the iMac and MacBook Pro, the MacBook Pro has the higher priority because it has the higher number.
Location | This information helps identify you in other people’s Jabber buddy lists. You can enter a location or select “Use my computer name.” For more details, see View your buddy lists.
